Patent Engineer

Job description

You will develop the IP activity of PASQAL, in cooperation with our external patent attorney.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • supporting the internal innovation activity at PASQAL through creativity workshops, dedicated periodical meetings…
  • proposing patenting strategies for innovative ideas;
  • actively contributing to the drafting of patent applications;
  • filing the patent applications and contributing to their prosecution;
  • developing further the existing patent survey activity (overseeing and managing freedom-to-operate investigations, patent database searches, screening of patent activities, and reviews of patent publications of competitors);
  • proposing and implementing mitigation strategies when IP threats are identified;
  • providing IP training to inventors, scientists and engineers within PASQAL;
  • assisting in administrative, organizational and accounting tasks in relation with IP.

This position is a job creation, to support the rapid growth and structuring of PASQAL.

Qualification & experience

You own a MSc or a PdD in Physics, ideally in a field closely related to Quantum Mechanics.

You have a least 5 years of experience in a similar position and in a comparable technical field, with a leading patent attorney practice or within the IP department of a large corporation. Ideally you also have a background in scientific and/or engineering activities.

You already successfully drafted and prosecuted several patent applications and international extensions.


You have a strong taste for deep-techs and a keen interest for new technologies. You feel really excited about our field of activity and the challenges that PASQAL is facing.

Your in-depth knowledge of IP rules and procedures, together with your communication and teaching skills provide you with the ability to communicate complex technical and legal concepts clearly and succinctly.

You have the ability to identify, review and explain patent-related matters and to provide IP advice to your colleagues.

Your persistence and negotiation skills will allow you to effectively defend PASQAL’s positions in matters relating to Intellectual Property.

You have excellent written and oral communication skills at least in English and in French.
