Optical Engineer

Job description

As the Optical Engineer at PASQAL, You will design the optical systems at the heart of our next generations of processors ! This encompasses among others the following missions:

As an optical engineer, you will contribute to the design and characterization of complex optical systems, in particular for interfacing the atoms and involves a collection of laser beams to trap, manipulate and detect the atoms, with a view to their integration into the R&D team’s quantum processors. In particular, your task will be to:

  • establish the specifications of the optical systems, taking into account the peculiar requirements of the processors,
  • design and build prototypes, in close collaboration with the research teams,
  • set up test benches to characterize the designed systems,
  • document the research carried out and the test performed.

You will then assist in the integration of the optical systems within the processors of the R&D department. As part of your work in the team, you will also be involved in the interfacing, calibration and operation of the processor’s optical systems (lasers, electro-optical components, cameras).

Qualification & experience

You hold a MSc or a PhD in Quantum Physics.

A previous experience in optical system design in an industrial or start-up environment is preferred. Experience in the field of spatial modulation of laser beams is a plus.


The successful candidate will have a strong taste for deep tech and new technologies. We are looking for someone who is really excited about our technologies and the scientific challenge that we are facing. A scientific curiosity for quantum information and atomic physics is a definite asset to work in our teams.

Your main scientific and technical skills are in optics and lasers. Strong computer and hardware/software interfacing skills are also required.

In this position you will build upon your interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.

English fluency is required for this position.
